Encaustic is a Greek word. it means to "burn in" or process with heat. Encaustic art is an ancient form of specialty painting rendered with molten beeswax, resin, and color pigment. It is applied with various tools in a controlled heated application. The famous Egyptian Fayum funeral portrait, End of the Reign of Trajan 98-117 A.D. is made of wax on wood, a testament to the durability of encaustic painting.
