Your image gets printed directly onto a sheet of 1/16" thick aluminum. The aluminum sheet is offset from the wall by a 3/4" thick wooden frame which is attached to the back. Encaustic (to burn in) is an ancient medium using hot, pigmented wax that is painted on a surface and then manipulated with a heat source such as a blow torch or iron. It's textural surface will never fade as other mediums do and can be buffed to bring out the intense coloration.
