A glistening lake shimmers with reflections from the surrounding trees and sky. This landscape painting is done in wax which is known as Encaustic.
Encaustic is a Greek word meaning to "burn in" or process with heat. Encaustic is an ancient art rendered with beeswax, resin, and color pigment. It is applied with various tools in a controlled heated application This painting is made of wax on wood as many ancient paintings were done. Some encaustics done in 117 A.D. still retain their original intensity.
The surface can be buffed with a soft cloth to heighten the rich wax colors.

The classic beauty of Dutch and Flemmish paintings has always motivated me to achieve a similar style in my own work. The glowing light of an interior by Vermeer and the mystery of Rembrandts portraits never fails to move me along my own creative path. I strive to emulate the masters in my work and find that with each new painting, I learn more about my own style as well as theirs. My oil and pastel paintings are composites of all the places I have visited and experienced throughout my life. European travel has strongly influenced the street scenes as well as the still life work. Traveling has provided me with a rich tapestry of images to translate onto canvas.
