Your image gets printed directly onto a sheet of 1/16" thick aluminum. The aluminum sheet is offset from the wall by a 3/4" thick wooden frame which is attached to the back. A glistening lake shimmers with reflections from the surrounding trees and sky. This landscape painting is done in wax which is known as Encaustic.
Encaustic is a Greek word meaning to "burn in" or process with heat. Encaustic is an ancient art rendered with beeswax, resin, and color pigment. It is applied with various tools in a controlled heated application This painting is made of wax on wood as many ancient paintings were done. Some encaustics done in 117 A.D. still retain their original intensity.
The surface can be buffed with a soft cloth to heighten the rich wax colors.
